Upper Makefield Township issues mandatory water use restrictions in order to protect homeowners

In response to ongoing dry conditions throughout Upper Makefield Township and the recent failure of several wells at township residences, Upper Makefield Township Emergency Management Coordinator Rob Kay, Sr. joins Township Manager Stephanie Teoli to encourage resident cooperation.

“Bucks County is experiencing a 5.5 inches deficit of rain this year and since a number of well problems have been reported, we are mandating a water use restriction be imposed,” Mr. Kay stated.  He added the following restrictions are in place:

Pursuant to Upper Makefield Township Ordinance, Chapter 26, Part 5 and Commonwealth regulations, Chapter 119:

Mandatory water use restrictions:

  • Watering of established lawns (over 1 year of growth/season)
  • Residential washing of vehicles, sidewalks, patios, driveways, and other exterior spaces
  • power washing of exterior surfaces
  • Hand-held hose plant watering only from 5pm-9pm
  • Use of sprinkler (irrigation) systems
  • No topping off of swimming pools
  • homeowners must notify the township of newly planted vegetation

Commercial exemptions apply
Violations may result in fines

Township officials would greatly appreciate your assistance in this effort to eliminate the non-essential use of water.  Your cooperation in complying with the restrictions above will benefit the Upper Makefield community, which depends on individual wells for its water supply and consumption.
