Upper Makefield Township

Sewage Facilities Plan Update Underway

Upper Makefield Township is in the process of completing an extensive revision to its Act 537 Sewage Facilities Plan which has not been revised since its initial adoption in 1978. A public presentation about the proposed revisions was made at the Board of Supervisors meeting on June 16, and a letter was sent to potentially impacted Upper Makefield residents on June 9.

Conversations Will Be On-Going All Summer
The Board of Supervisors will continue to address public questions and gather input throughout the summer. All Upper Makefield residents with questions or concerns about the revisions to the sewage plan are encouraged to e-mail the township, and attend this summer’s Board of Supervisor meetings on July 21 and August 4.

All municipalities in PA are required to have a sewage plan (Act 537) in place which addresses present and future sewage disposal needs.

Sewage Malfunctions in Taylorsville, Dolington
Consultants were hired to help the township with the revision process – they studied on-lot disposal systems, private small-flow treatment facilities, and township-owned public sewage facilities. During the examination period, data showed that properties in Taylorsville and Dolington had high levels of malfunctioning on-lot systems.

Additionally, data analyzed from the Bucks County Health Department also confirmed that some systems in Taylorsville and Dolington are malfunctioning.

The Draft Plan & Future Township Meetings
Therefore, township consultants drafted a plan that outlines alternatives for addressing the malfunctioning sewage systems.

The Board of Supervisors will continue discussions throughout the summer. The July 21 Board of Supervisors meeting will focus on the Taylorsville area, and the August 4 meeting will focus on the Dolington area.

It is anticipated that the Board of Supervisors will adopt the revised sewage plan in the fall of 2010.
